SOCIAL
ISSUES

Roar For Change advocates explore social issues that influence our daily lives. These issues have come to the forefront of national and international conversation, so our advocates have come to the front of the discussion as well. Issues spanning from fields of education, women's issues, commerce, and security are in need of transformation to fit the country and the world's current needs. Here is how Roar for Change hopes to address and influence change.

MAKE AMERICA

TALK AGAIN

By: Cissy Ming

The political polarization currently afflicting the United States reaches every level of our lives, from the behavior of political leaders to the way partisans interact (or don't) on a daily basis. A large number of conservatives and liberals avoid befriending one another in both the physical and digital spheres -- preventing the type of conversations that produce compromises and mutual understanding. At Penn State, I propose a Student Programming Association-run initiative to hold a series of deliberations on current issues, with expert speakers from both sides brought in to engage students.

Women's Issues

WOMEN’S HEALTH MATTERS, PERIOD.

By: Emily Frantz

Not all restrooms are created equal. Menstruation is a process all women face regularly, yet providing accessible care is perpetually overlooked. Public restrooms rarely carry feminine hygiene products, and in the circumstance that they are in stock, there's almost always a fee. Public policy should be implemented at a national level in order to resolve two major problems surrounding this predicament: tampons and pads should be tax-free in all states, and free and accessible in public buildings.

Commerce

UNEMPLOYMENT IN AMERICA

By: John McMahon

The unemployment rate is a great predictor of how the economy is functioning. It is important for the United States to limit the number of jobs lost to outsourcing and technological advancement in order to create a better future for United States citizens and stop the economy from dropping into a recession.

Security

SAFEGUARDING PRIVACY ONLINE

By: Jacob Smith

Lawmakers in the United State have ignored the issue of data privacy for long enough. This issue brief makes a case for legislators to put into action laws that will ensure the rights of American citizens as well as providing examples of similar legislation throughout the world.
