IS IT SAFE TO KEEP THE AGE

By: David Dzordzorme

With the values of safety and security in mind, the United States maintains a law that states that citizens must be 21 years of age to legally drink alcohol. However, this policy may be doing more harm than good, as seen though countless hazing and binge-drinking issues on American college campuses. Lowering the drinking age in the United States is a viable solution that could impose plentiful benefits for all parties involved.

Gerrymandering: Engagement Edition

In the state of Pennsylvania, elected officials have the power to redraw political lines to increase the chances of their party members winning elections. This practice, called gerrymandering, devalues the power of a citizen's vote, so RCL students took a stand on this issue at Penn State's Earth Day festival. Through the use of rigged carnival games, students were able to show the public the reality of their vote.

With the help of Gerry the Gerrymander, participants were drawn to experience the various carnival games. Those very participants were later exposed to the harmful effects that gerrymandering has on voters and on the American political system as a whole.
